Instructions For Installing
the Christmas Tree I-V
|
|
|
|
|
Step
1. Drill A Hole
Locate
a spot about 10" from the bottom
of the trunk.
Drill
one hole on top as shown using a 1/2" drill bit.
Drill
more than halfway through (2/3rds to 3/4th) into trunk. Do not drill
completely through the trunk.
|
Step 2. Fill
& Prime
Fill the plastic
jug with plain tap water (in the first gallon only
add 2 tablespoons of liquid bleach).
Pull enough tubing
through the lid so that the end of the tubing reaches the bottom of the
jug.
Put the Christmas
Tree I-V™ unit lid on the jug.
Let the Flow Plug
dangle in the sink & while holding your finger over the small vent
hole in the stopper, gently squeeze the jug until water flows out of the
Flow Plug.
A siphon is created
and water will continue to come out of the Flow Plug.
Lock the Tubing
Clamp and the water will be retained in the line.
Take the
primed Christmas Tree I-V™ and the jug to the Christmas tree and you are
ready to hook up the tree on the I-V.
|
Step
3. Use It!
Put the jug on a
small table or box so that the bottom of the jug is
higher than the hole where the Flow Plug is to be inserted.
The jug can be gift
wrapped or decorated.
Insert the Flow
Plug into the hole that was drilled in the tree. Do
this within one hour of drilling the hole so that the hole does not
"sap over".
Hold the Flow Plug
tip into the hole and release the tubing clamp and wait for water to
trickle out around the Flow Plug. Turn the wing nut clockwise ("righty
tighty, lefty loosy") a couple of times
to expand the black rubber bushing. Give a gentle tug to the Flow
Plug and it should not come out of the hole. This will form an
airtight and leakproof seal around the hole and the Flow Plug.
To refill the
bottle simply lock the tubing clamp and fill bottle, replace the cap
and then unlock clamp. Check to see that the end of the tubing is
reaching the bottom of the jug.

How To Install Two
Christmas Tree I-Vs Using One Jug
To install the second unit simply move around the
trunk so that the second hole is crossing the first hole (See photo above for
two units) and follow the same instructions for installing the second unit.
Using one of the Christmas Tree I-V units follow the
instructions in Step 2 above.
Leave the Clamp locked on the first unit and remove the
Red Lid and assemble the second Christmas Tree I-V.
Insert the tubing end of the second Christmas Tree I-V
into the open hole in the Red Lid and pull enough tubing through so that it will
reach the bottom of the jug also.
Use a round pointed object (safety pin, ice pick, or small
knife) and put another hole in the lid.
Put the lid with both Christmas Tree I-V units back on the
filled jug.
Let the Flow Plug dangle in the sink & while holding
your finger over the vent hole that you just created in the stopper, gently
squeeze the jug until water flows out of the second Flow Plug.
Lock the Tubing Clamp on the second unit and the
water will be retained in the line.
Following the instruction in Step 3, insert one Flow Plug
into a hole and release the Clamp of that unit.
If the holes were drilled so that they cross each other
water should flow out of the second hole (even if the holes do not exactly cross
that is OK, the water will share the space).
Following the instructions in Step 3 insert the second
Flow Plug into the remaining hole and release the Clamp.
